Obsessed with making music that makes you feel
Why Do i Make music?
As a kid, I wanted to be a magician. I was mystified by things I didn’t understand.
A magic trick, like a great joke or song makes you feel something, and I NEEDED to figure it out for myself.
I had wands, I had magic kits, and even got to go to the magic castle.
I was mesmerized by magic, I even read all the Harry Potter books in elementary school.
I listened to Soul, R&B, Jazz, Rock, and Funk radio in my dads car, Pop radio in my moms, and through the internet, I found and fell in love with Hip Hop and dance.
(To this day I love a range of musicians like Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Prince, Michael Jackson, as well as The Backstreet Boys, Akon, T-Pain, Diplo, Ryan Tedder, & Sia. Artists like Childish Gambino, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, Will.I.Am, Jay Z, Drake, Russ, Joji, Kanye West and others have inspired the polymath in me to be great, do great work, and to be unlimited in my creative capacity).
I was obsessed with music.
I remember limewire downloads to my iPod and getting home from middle school searching DigitialDripped.com, HotNewHipHop.com & GoodMusicAllDay every single day to see what new music I could find.
I couldn’t get enough. At a certain point curiosity got the best of me and I tried to make songs myself.
From punchlines on notes to songs on type beats and ultimately making thousands of beats and hundreds of songs, 10 years later I’m still learning with the goal of getting better everyday as a musician and a human.
Music truly changed my life. It made me feel less alone after my first relationship ended (which was followed by parents divorce).
My identity and self esteem were tattered… but although I found making songs was extremely difficult, I also found it rewarding and cathartic to express myself through words and sounds.
I don’t think I gave up on my wizardly pursuits because the ability for someone to capture sound/noise/emotion and then convert and convey that energy through a song to make you feel something (happy, sad, motivated, etc.) is pure magic to me.
I’d love to achieve financial freedom as well as creative freedom to help create songs that the younger me would be obsessed with, healed from, and ultimately transfixed to have found.
The riskiest thing you can do is play it safe. You can only fail if you stop… You can’t truly fail if you simply keep going.
I aspire to do great work, consistently get better, and positively impact/inspire people everyday. I aim to be the person I needed as a kid, relentlessly push/challenge myself, & leave the world a better place than it was before I arrived.
I BELIEVE LIFE IS A BEAUTIFUL AND EXCITING ADVENTURE AND ART IS A CONTRIBUTION NOT A COMPETITION.
Keep Going!
P.S. I’m leaving a lot out but hopefully you understand a bit more about me and where I’m coming from when you listen to the music I make, work on, and release.
